Having a great time here in Berlin. It is very hot (35C) and we’ve not seen the slightest sign of clouds so far.
Spent Monday getting here and then took a bus tour to get our bearings. Spent yesterday looking at some antiquities museums , the Brandenburg Gate, Tiergarten and the Riechstag.
Spent today at a magnificent palace called Schloss Charlottenburg and then took a boat tour along the Spree.
Whilst we were wandering around we found the Sowjetisches Ehtrnmal which commemorates the 300,000 Soviet soldiers who died in the Battle of Berlin – flanked by a pair of T-34/85s which were the first tanks into the city.
And also the Holocaust Memorial
Tomorrow we plan to visit Checkpoint Charlie, see the remains of the wall and the Jewish Museum.
The city is really nice. Very clean and tidy. An amazing amount of building and most of the buildings are in excellent condition – despite the amount of rebuilding since WWII.
Back to Nottingham and the kids on Friday afternoon.
