Played another game of Monty’s Gamble: Market Garden with Paul today. My third in under a week! Again I took the Germans.

Paul easily won. Despite poor paradrops need Eindhoven he was able to force a way through with the XXX Corps nearly reaching Arnheim by game end. He about about 12 VPs compared with the 9 needed to win.

Played another game game of Monty’s Gamble: MarkMonty’s Gambleet Garden today. This time with Paul and again I took the Germans.

The game started well for Paul with the British taking Arnhem and the XXX Corp getting out of Neerpelt, around Eindhoven and starting their advance up the highaway. I managed to blow a couple of bridges in the south with slowed things up.

In turn two I was able to take Veghel which really slowed up the British advance and Paul was never really able to recover from this, only getting armour to the outskirts of Nijmegen by game end.

The Poles landed in Driel and were able to take Elden. Despite repeated strong German attacks they were unable to retake Arnheim.

After we finished we realised we had made some significant rules mistakes – mainly in the area of taking reinforcements early (the reason Veghel fell early) and British airborn defensive strengths (the reason Arnheim was not retaken).

Despite these mistakes it was a good game and we plan to play again next week.

Andy and I played Monty’s Gamble: Market Garden today. I’ve not played it for about 18 months so was a little rusty. Andy took the Allies and was able to advance and take Nijmegen and cross the Waal whilst taking Arnheim with his British paratroopers. In the end he achieved the ten VPs he needed for a victory.

Good game.
